My first novel, "The 29th Day," is about a mother challenged by her son's extraordinary knowledge about climate change (he knows things no one could possibly have taught him!). At many points in "The 29th Day," there are references to the power of water -- to nourish and soothe, to destroy and damage. This is no coincidence -- I live by Lake Ontario and draw much inspiration from the water.

One of the key themes of my writing blog -- http://books.macedo.ca -- is "fiction for a change." This refers to the idea that fiction can be used to support positive social change. This campaign is an experiment to see how direct that link might be. If you like my blog and my writing, perhaps you could make a donation to this campaign -- a sort of trade: words for water.

This campaign also provides me with a sense of urgency -- I hope to use my novels as fundraisers and would like to see them published sooner rather than later. This summer I will be working hard to revise "The 29th Day" for submission to a second agent. I hope that by the time this campaign ends, I will have found an agent who loves "The 29th Day" enough to take me on AND raised money for the well -- now that would be something to celebrate!
