In Robin's words...
It's official...I ran in the Cowtown Marathon to help raise money to build a water well that will give clean water to a village for years to come.
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I was planning on doing the half marathon, but when I got to the turning point where the half and full marathon split, I decided to see how far I could go and continued on the marathon path. The good news is that I made it to mile 20 before needing to stop to avoid further injury to my leg. I feel great about getting to that point! Now I need to take some time to rest and recover, but plan to retrain to run a marathon. As a result of my injury I learned quite a bit about leg muscles and the body. I will be training very differently this time because my plan is to run for many years! My Charity Water campaign continues through the end of March so you still have time to donate to this great cause if you so choose. I want to thank all those who supported my thus far. Together we are participating is something that will help many others for many years to come. Every week, millions of women and their children walk more than 14 miles just to get water for their families. Most of this water is contaminated, but it's the only water they have. They take the chance of contracting deadly diarrheal diseases with every sip. There's nothing they can do to change this. So, what can I do? My mission is to raise $5000 for water. I want every step to matter. I'm asking for pledges to help achieve this goal. The best part: 100% of everything I raise will go straight to building water projects in the field. Then, when the projects are complete, charity water will show us just where they are and who they're helping (with GPS coordinates, photos and other details). We'll be able to see the communities we've impacted. I hope you'll join me in helping now. |
